Not these days. Ultrasound pregnancy dating and anomaly screening is now a first trimester event in Canadian jurisdictions (B.C. and Ontario) where I have worked in the last twenty years. Some women are not screened but very few do not know their dates accurately.
Forty years ago there was much more uncertainty. I do not know what the midwives are recommending this decade, but dating has not seemed to be in doubt.
Second trimester miscarriages are not common...
12 and 13 weeks, so just barely 2nd trimester and as we know, timing can be off with the dates.
