One quibble. Millennia, not 100 years. The only thing that has changed is the technology used. Millennia ago it was throwing the newborn into the garbage dump, now it is meddling with genes. Fallen humans being fallen humans.

Yes, people don't seem to realize that across all of history similar problems keep rearing their ugly heads. Human beings are not capable of creating a "utopia" on Earth because of our inherent fallen nature. The only cure is Jesus Christ who takes that fallen nature and forgives all sin to make people whole again. His kingdom is what everyone desires. Some just don't realize it yet. Love, joy, grace, forgiveness and relationships are all central to His kingdom. The problem arises when human beings try to create a false utopia on Earth. It's never worked out too well. Like communism, these people think it just hasn't been "done the right way" yet to work. They want to try again. They are sorely mistaken.

I don't think it's just our fallen nature that prevents us from creating utopia.

Utopia cannot be created. The very act of attempting to create (impose) utopia inherently creates dystopia. Imposing utopia is, quite literally, a Satanic idea. Sauron was a utopian.

Utopia, if it is ever to exist, must be a bottom up phenomenon. Everyone voluntarily starts to behave better. And then utopia might appear. But it cannot be created from above.

Which, perhaps (for who am I to claim to know the mind of God?), may be why God didn't do it :-).
